Diaper Cake

I haven't been posting too much lately because #1, I haven't had too much to blog about, and #2 I've been crazy busy with craft ideas that I've been wanting to do. The above picture being one of them.

I made this diaper cake for Carrie, who is due with little baby girl Page on the 10th. It's crazy to think that she's going to be here so soon!! I've been holding out on putting these pictures up because Carrie wanted me to bring it to the hospital and be surprised then. Of course that didn't turn out, so she has already seen it, which means I can share my pictures on here! I have to say too that out of the two that I've done, this one is my fave.

These are super easy to do and so fun to make as well!

Ode to Leg Warmers

This is Lily. Looks innocent, right? Perfectly normal? This girlie is one unique broad. She has a personality that keeps me guessing. Lily is hilarious, yet humble. I'm trying to think if humble is the right word. She only shares her real personality with a select few. One of the privileges of being her mother is that I am on of the select few.

Lily likes to dress herself. I love that she has now gotten to this phase because it shows a little bit more of her personality. She likes what she likes and she's going to wear it. I love that. The article of choice?

Leg warmers. In the summer.

With skirts:

With shorts and sandals:
(I love that they don't even match her shirt)

She even wore them when we went to her cousin's birthday party at a place called Bouncin' Off the Walls where she would be running around...

and doing this...

I don't even know if you can see the beloved coverings, but they are there!
I think we may need to get another pair of leg warmers.

Wedding Day!

Today these two awesome people were married and sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple!
We couldn't be more excited for them that this day finally came. But, I have to say that this couple (with the help of their parents) can throw one heck of a party.

We had a dinner at Gardiner Village in a building called the Gathering Place. It was beautiful. And after all the traditional wedding things, there was dancing. Do you know who was all over that? LILY! She could NOT wait to go a cut a rug. She wanted to be out in the middle of it all and just let loose! It was so cute and hilarious to watch at the same time!

This is Lily busting a move during the Boot Scootin' Boogy. She partied hard.

I'm not going to lie, she kind of reminds me of that computerized dancing baby. I think it's time to get her in some dance classes! Hooray!

Congratulations to Spencer and Nicole Townsend!!!

Learning Something New Everyday

Last night we had a couple of neighbors over for a game night. One of the guys is a HUGE game fan. When we have game nights with him and his wife, he brings over 7 or 8 games. He loves to introduce new games and explain how to play. We never have played the same game with them.

Except last night, I was proud because I knew a game that they wanted to play. They call it "Pounce", but I so lovingly know it as "Nuts". I absolutely L-O-V-E this game. We played as teams. When the instructions were being given, I learned something about Matthew.

Matthew has lived this long and has NEVER learned how to play solitaire. He hasn't ever played chess either, but seriously? Solitaire? Who doesn't know how to play solitaire??

Oh that's right, my husband!

There was a lot of picking on Matthew last night from all around.

Choosing Battles

This morning, one of William's friends invited him to come and play. So me and Lily had one on one time. We went to the mall and went to the girl store (aka Claires) so she could pick a girly treat. Well... all I can say is, sometimes you can't help what your children pick out.
For instance:

What is that thing??

The Kiddies

William
Age: 4 1/2
Favorite color: Green
Favorite movie: Hero of the Rails (the one with Thomas and Spencer)
Favorite food: Eggs and toast
Favorite candy: chocolate (like grandpa in Tennessee)
Halloween Costume this year: Thomas (again)
Favorite toy: Spencer the train
Favorite catch phrase: "Bust my Boilers!"
Favorite song: Thomas the Tank Engine
Favorite Train: Thomas

William is a genuinely good boy. He just worries too much sometimes. William likes to know what is going to happen every second of the next year, pretty much. He remembers everything, almost. He is LOVING primary and cannot wait to go to preschool. I think it's mostly because he wants a Thomas backpack. If William had his way, he would play trains all day on my kitchen table with a Thomas movie playing in the background. I have recently discovered that he likes to be call William, not Will. I can't believe how fast this little man is growing up. Sometimes he seems like an older person inside a little body. But, then he goes into silly mode which can be funny, and draining. What can I say? He's a mama's boy.

Lily
Age: 3 1/2
Favorite color: pink
Favorite movie: Tinkerbell
Favorite food: chicken nuggets and french fries
Favorite candy: Ring Pops
Halloween Costume this year: Jessie (this changes daily)
Favorite toy: Jessie
Favorite phrase: "but I don't want to..."
Favorite song: Tinkerbell (Fly to your Heart)
Favorite Princess: Tiana and Cinderella

Lily is such a girl. Don't get me wrong, she can be a tomboy at times too. She likes to play trains with William, but her heart lies with her animals and little figures. She likes to watch me do things, like put on make-up and cook. (Not at the same time). She has recently said that she would like to take dance classes, which I am ecstatic about. Potty training her has been one of the hardest things I have ever done since becoming a mother. Lily has a hilarious sense of humor. She'll act shy on the exterior, but on the inside, she is quite the firecracker and she does like the attention. She has now gotten to the awesome stage of belting out music, mostly in the car. She'll be trying out for American Idol this season. Not really...

Life. As I Know It.

Sometimes I feel like life is one of those dunking tanks at the carnival. And it's my turn to be in the hot seat (striped body swimsuit is a must). I'm fine sitting above life. I can see the ball head straight towards the target and then end up barely missing where it was meant to hit the hardest. The anticipation's there though. I know that when things are going too good, something will happen soon and I will get dunked. Ball after ball. One thing after another. And it happens. I'm hit right at the target. I fall straight into this tank of water. (And for analogies sake, let's just say the water's super deep.) I have to fight to keep my head above the water. And if you know me and my fear of water, you can only imagine the panic attack I would be having.

Now, I'm sure this is nothing new to anyone who is living. Because, I think this is how everyone feels at one point or another. Whether it be finances, illness, hormones..., spiritually, etc.

I just have to say that it never ceases to amaze me how Heavenly Father knows exactly what to say when I feel like I'm drowning. I have been feeling overwhelmed lately with a lot of things going on. A lot of decisions needed to be made. A lot of work to get done. I asked Matthew to give me a blessing of comfort. - Doesn't that phrase alone just make you take a huge sigh of relief?

Heavenly Father knows us. He's aware of our trials and we are never alone. It's incredible to me to know that He knows me so well. The more that I learn about myself, the more I know that He knows me better than myself. Blessings are amazing. (And in turn is the Priesthood.) Whether it be a Patriarchal Blessing, or just a simple blessing of comfort to be the buoy that's thrown your way.

Even though I'm still in the tank of water among all of my trials, I'm floating. And I can breathe.
