One Can Hear the Falling Snow

My all around favorite Christmas song is - and no mom, it's not "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time," although I think that I am the only person on the planet that actually LIKES listening to that song every year. I look forward to it actually. It's a Christmas Classic to me, thank you Wings - um.. my favorite song is... drum roll please... "Still, Still, Still."
It has the most beautiful lyrics I have ever heard. I imagine it's a parent talking to a child before bedtime. It fills me with joy to think of my children being surrounded by angels while they sleep. That we will all be happy together when our Savior arrives. To take it one step farther, it reminds me of the love that Heavenly Father has for all of His children. The peace we can feel when we are in His presence again.
I am overwhelmed with the Spirit of Christmas and of life when I listen to this song.
The past couple of weeks, it's been snowing like crazy in the wintry state of Utah. I am NOT a fan of the cold. I'm scared to death of driving down a snow covered street. BUT, I do love the scarves and gloves that people wear. And I have a coat fetish -I'm not ashamed.
One of my favorite things, though, is to bundle up and relax on the back porch -with a cup of 7 eleven hot chocolate- and watch the snow fall to the ground. Everything is so bright. Even in the dark, the sky is so full of snow-filled clouds, it brightens up the Earth. Day or night, the rooftops blend in with the sky. The leafless trees are gorgeous still, being iced in layers of white. The fresh snow that blankets the ground is the most beautiful before someone steps on it.
Although the beach is warm and the perfect setting to read a book -Jennifer-I do agree that I wouldn't mind that setting either. There's nothing that brings the feeling of Christmas to me more than snow.
Like my favorite Christmas song, snow brings with it a sense of peace, of stillness. Isn't that a part of the Christmas Spirit? "Peace on Earth, Goodwill toward Men."

Still, Still, Still
One can hear the falling snow
for all is hushed
the world is sleeping
holy star, it's vigil keeping
still, still, still
one can hear the falling snow
Sleep, sleep, sleep
'tis the eve of our Savior's birth
the night is peaceful, all around you
close your eyes
let sleep surround you
sleep, sleep, sleep
'tis the eve of our Savior's birth
Dream, dream, dream
of the joyous day to come
while guardian angels
without number
watch you as you sweetly slumber
dream, dream, dream
of the joyous day to come

I like that song as well.In this busy season it makes you pause and be still and remember what the season is all about. While I do prefer a warmer climate, I might not mind the cold as much if it could be pretty with snow. I don't know though, because I have never lived anywhere with lots of snow. However, when we got snow a week ago, the days and nights were brighter just like you are talking about and it was beautiful. Merry Christmas Candace! We miss you all and will be thinking of you this Christmas and wishing you were here!

Beautiful thought -- they gave me goose bumps! I love that song too -- it's probably one of my most favorite Christmas songs as well.

Hope you have a lovely Christmas -- love to all of you!

Oh, Candace! How I love to read your blog. Even more so...now that I don't see you everyday! I LOVE that song and I love the way you write! So poetic. I hope y'all have a good Christmas! Eat yorkshire pudding and be glad you aren't eating the mystery food at Grandmother's this year! Love you and will probably call you later.

Merry Christmas, Candace and Matt and Will and Lily. You are my babies and I do want you to have peace and dream-filled sleep. (I love this song, too). We miss you more than I can express, especially at this holiday season. Thanks for this beautiful message. It warmed my heart. Mom

The Little Drummer Boy performed by Ray Charles is definately one of the best if not THE best Christmas songs ever produced. Also, I like Neil Diamond's Christmas albumn. He's Jewish, so I'm not exactly sure why he made a Christmas albumn, but as I listen to him sing Joy to the World, I don't question him.
